Are you using Sync to sync data to other devices?

The Sync version in current Firefox releases (34+) uses the password manager to store the name (e-mail) and password to be used to connect to the Sync server.

Firefox will also ask for the master password if you open a web page with a login field and you have saved a name and password in the Password Manager
