I would like to minimize the amount of data downloaded when viewing web pages. Most of the download for a web page is images. Many times I look at the part of the web page visible and don't scroll down, but the browser has already downloaded the images for the part of the page I never see. So is there a Firefox option, or plugin, to stop loading of Images outside of the viewport?

See if this fits your needs. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-block/

Just a simple "toggle" switch; images get loaded or they don't get loaded.

Beyond that, look at this AMO search.
