Mozilla Thunderbird doesn´t open anymore in Windows 8.1. When I started Thunderbird the error message appeared: "This account...is being processed. Please wait...". I clicked Ok and another message appeared I clicked Ok and the thunderbird icon has dissapeared from the taskbar. Now if I click to the direct access icon at the desktop to start thunderbird the error appears saying that It was changed or removed the element thunderbird.exe, so the direct access will not work correctly. I looked for Thunderbird in the Programs installed in my PC. I found 2 versions of the program there: Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.0 (x86-es-ES) and 38.5.1 (x86-es-ES). I searched for the file named thunderbird.exe in my pc and I couldnt find It. The only similar file I found It is called thunderbird.exe.moz-backup Then I tried to change the route of access in the direct access desktop icon from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe" to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe.moz-backup" and It doesnt work anyway. Please, help to resolve this issue without loosing the data (email accounts and emails). Thank you in advance.

thunderbird.exe should be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe

If this has been removed, then a program on your computer (or you ) has moved it; maybe the Anti-virus program had a hand in this? Suggest you do not let AV scan any Thunderbird folders on startup.

Thunderbird program is not stored in the same place as your profile contains emails etc. So, uninstalling and reinstalling should not effect emails. However, if you have not performed a backup recently then now would be a good time to do it.

uninstall Thunderbird. Start > control Panel > Programs and Features. select ; Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.0 (x86-es-ES) and click on 'uninstall' you will probably discover that Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.1 (x86-es-ES) changes icon and when window is refreshed, it has also disappeared.

then download a fresh copy from here:

Hello! Thank you for your answer. Just want to write here a small report. I think this problem happened after some updates made before. To resovle this I clicked to uninstall Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.0 as you recommended and nothing happened, then I tried to uninstall Mozilla Thunderbird 38.5.1 and I got the same result. The both programs were appearing in "Programs" at my PC even after restarting the pc but It looked like they couldnt be uninstalled. And there was no any thunderbird.exe file at my pc. What I did is just to download the fresh version of Mozilla Thunderbird 38.6.0 from the link you posted and the Thunderbird has opened with all my emails. Now I can see only one Mozilla Thunderbird - 38.6.0 - at my PC. The only problem that I´m having at the moment, when I installed the new thunderbird, the error of updating has appeared saying that It wasnt possible to make a parcial update and that mozilla thunderbird will try to look for updates and 1 hour or more I have the window of "Connecting to the server of updating"... to download thunderbird updates active and It never ends. I dont understand why I need any updates after downloading a fresh version of the program. Will I need any updates of thunderbird when I install Windows 10 at my pc? Thanks a lot fo your help.
