Hi   !

When you have a lot of tabs, the closing X takes up too many pixels. You could (for now) consider this add-on :

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/

But would you also take a look at this article, please :

Hi, you could instead, type about:config into the address bar, press Enter, accept the warning, scroll down to browser.tabs.tabClipWidth then right click > Modify, and change the number from 140 to something lower - try 80. Then restart Firefox.

Ive tried changing it to all kinds of numbers and restarted firefox each time, but did not notice anything different. I even tried 0.

Well classic theme restorer does allow you to display the close button always, but not when you mouse over the tab. Is that possible?

Note that Firefox hides the close button on inactive tabs if there are enough tabs open to make them shrunk below a specific minimum.

No,   mouse over the tab won't display the close button,   but   (as you undoubtedly already know) when you click at the end of the tab you want to close, the tab   will   close.

For now Classic Theme Restorer would be the closest thing to what you want, I'm afraid. But still : when you use many tabs, the width will decrease, which leaves little room for text. Adding a close button will take up even more room at the expense of the text.

You can middle-click a tab with the mouse scroll wheel to close the tab. I prefer this to avoid closing a tab accidentally when you click a tab to select the tab and it gives the most space for the tab label.
