How to block website pop-up subscription windows
Hi all.
This has probably been asked ad nauseum, so I am sorry to ask this again, I did not find this problem or solution in a search on the forum.
I visit many websites a day, following bloggers, companies of all kinds. I am assaulted, constantly, by pop-up email subscription windows; you know the kind I am speaking of, the site wants you to sign up for their email, follow them on Facebook, etc. You start to read something of interest, and then BAM! Right in your face, a big window pops up to follow them, blocking what you were doing, until you click out of it. It is so annoying!
I have tried different tools in the past with no luck in blocking them at all. It seems these pop-up windows are created in such a way that they are like a puzzle: made of many pieces, so it is impossible to block them with one click of Ad-blocker.
Have there been any progress made, to once and for all, block these bothersome pop-up windows? Any new tools/add-ons I can try to try to block them?
Thank you, for any help you can give me :)

I trust that you are aware that OSX 10.7 is no longer supported by Mozilla. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-osx
That said, uBlock Origin does a lot more than merely block advertising. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ But you'd need an older version of uBO that is compatible with Firefox 48. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/versions/ Version 1.13.8 looks to be the latest version that is compatible with Fx48.0.
But then you might be the position of trying to get support help with an older version of uBO. Here's the support link from the uBO download page at AMO. https://discourse.mozilla.org/t/support-ublock-origin/6746/2
