I have sent an email with files attached as .doc files. When I forward this same email from the sent box the attachments are converted to .odt (open office format) and sent as .odt not .doc. I use Open Office but save files in .doc format so do not understand how/why Thunderbird is converting these files on the forwarded email. Any help appreciated - thanks

as Thunderbird has not concept of doc or ODT files (that is why helper applications are listed in the Options > attachments then the change is not occurring in Thunderbird. Where those file types are concerned Thunderbird is dumber than an OX.

IT might be that if they are opened after attaching, that they might be in some way converted by the application that they are viewed in.
