I have many friends that use cell phones and have a text address and or number. I can sent to tht address but when the respond back from that address it does not open directly into Thunderbird . It goes either to note pad or word pad . I am not able to read a text email directly from Thunderbird it self. Is there an extension or add on to do this or do i have to use conf ig editor to get it to open in Thunderbird just like an ordinary email response

Try: 'View' > select 'display attachments inline'

All attachments will open using the appropriate software, so txt will open in a text editor eg: Notepad. This has always been the case.

However, some attachments can open inline and display within the email. Images and .txt should display.

Menu app icon >Options > Options >Advanced > 'General' tab Check both of these are set as 'True'

  • mail.inline_attachments
  • mail.inline_attachments.text

Please note if you are getting attachment with 'size unknown' and cannot be opened then try: Access Config Editor again and set this as 'False'.
