From time to time, one of our Thunderbird users gets an error message upon clicking "send". It reads:

your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder due to network or file access errors

yet, there is a copy in the sent folder, and no other problems are noticed. I have searched online, but the only info I have found about this error involve gmail as the email host, and we use Network Solutions, so not sure if I should investigate the fixes suggested. This isn't causing a problem other than the error message appearing. It is and annoyance more than anything, but if we could prevent it from happening, the user would appreciate it. Any ideas on something I should do/try? Thank you! charlie Turner

Network Solutions offers several types of email services, including MS Hosted Exchange. One of the features of MS email and gmail is that they automatically copy sent messages to the Sent folder, so you should uncheck 'Place a copy in' in the Copies & Folders section of Tools/Account Settings. Try that and see if sent messages still appear in Sent, and the error message is absent.

Thank you for the quick reply! I did as you suggested, but no longer was getting a copy of outgoing mail in the sent folder. I also clicked the "Get Mail" button to make sure that wasn't an issue. For what it's worth, our mail accounts are all plain vanilla POP3 accounts hosted on Linux, nothing fancy like Exchange or anything like that. Any other thoughts on something I should try? It is a bit strange that this is only affecting 1 user out of around 125 to 130. Many even have identical hardware and software. Thank you again! charlie

If it's a POP account and the Sent folder isn't working properly, you could try rebuilding the Sent folder by copying the existing messages to another folder, then deleting the mbox and msf file from the profile, with TB closed. A new Sent folder will be automatically created when you send the first message.

I will give this a try and report back. Thanks!
