I recently got a new computer so I copied over my profile and updated both Systems to the newer app version 78.8 something couple months ago I've had 3 or 4 updates since then. Command+H doesn't, command+Q works. When I hit a keyboard shortcut I can see the menu flashing however thunderbird doesn't hide, if I go into the menu and hit about Thunderbird it doesn't do anything but If I hit the menu– – – Thing > help > about it works. I also can't get into preferences with command+, I have to actually go into the menu– – – as the preferences Item in the menu bar also doesn't work. It's almost like the app doesn't have focus but it does and it's ignoring some keyboard shortcuts on both systems. I have 3 profiles, a default profile and 2 email profiles. keyboard shortcuts are working in both of them except for my primary email hey would you look at that I learned something new trying to debug it myself, I have a habit of answering my own question so..... As of an hour ago I did not think of trying a different profile because I thought it was doing the same thing.

To test for a broken layout, try running the offending profile in safe mode (Help/Restart with add-ons disabled).

Thanks I forgot about safe mode, however I did remember how to get into it without looking it up. However going to the Thunderbird menu hide/preferences + keyboard shortcuts didn't work in safe mode. And here I was thinking it was gonna be an easy fix. And yet it is profile specific.

I keep going what version of Thunderbird am I using menu about oh it doesn't work "78.8.1 (64-bit)" Took me a while to realize the consolidated code base and the similarities to Firefox to remember an alternative way to those settings.

You might have better luck creating a new profile with 78. Using a profile that was created with an older version may or may not have issues, and I usually recommend starting on a new profile with each major release. At the very least, it's easy to create a new profile from Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles, to see if the shortcuts and menus work properly, and if they do, data from the old profile can be transferred to the new one. Either profile can be launched from about:profiles.

Thanks I already have a couple profiles and I wouldn't say they were really old both imported the same way but only one of them is displaying this issue. They were created maybe 2 to 3 years ago one design revision. I have 4 email accounts and all my settings set up I don't really want to have to rebuild it but I might have to. I have another profile from my dads email because time to time I have to go in and clean things and one that transferred fine.
