On the Homepage or new Tab page, we can choose a search engine to search with.. but instead of searching through the search engine it auto moves your text to the URL box where it then takes what you search and links it with webpage history and as you quickly hit Enter to submit your search, you get some random webpage instead of that you search for from the URL auto-fill. AT LEAST add an option to the Home Settings to turn this manipulative setting OFF. I asked for help before about this and got a manual config edit that ONLY works for non-Private browser and doesn't remain through updates.

You can set this pref to false on the about:config page to disable this feature.

  • about:config => browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. If you get the warning page, you can click the "Accept the Risk and Continue" button.
