I still have not been able to connect to gmail with Thunderbird. I have researched and checked all I could find. Following is the connection info: Imap, SSL/TLS, OAuth2, 993 Smtp, SSL/TLS, OAuth2, 465 javascript true cookies allowed When it starts up the Google account screen comes up and I am able to enter the email address and password and allow Thunderbird to access gmail. After this nothing more happens. No passwords get asked for and no passwords get saved in Thunderbird's in Thunderbird's cache. When I delete the account and reenter it a message comes up, "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." Any idea how I can get this working?

So you have followed the recommendations at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-accounts-oauth20 ?

One thing not listed in those recommendations, please remove all past gmail/google passwords.

Also, please try https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

None of this helped at all. I finally used Google's app passwords, and that worked.
