Attachments open minimized. I get mp4 files and they open in the tray. I have to click on them to see them. If I hover over them you can see the preview. I have ran Thunderbird in the Troubleshooting mode, I made a new profile, Searched for help and Google has found nothing. It's been doing this for a couple of months. If you have any suggestions.

Attachments open minimized. I get mp4 files and they open in the tray. I have to click on them to see them. If I hover over them you can see the preview. Thunderbird can only use the program as designated by you. Thunderbird itself can be set up to minimise to Tray, but it does not control how other programs open. The application/program which you use to view the mp4 files...eg: Windows Media Player, the VLC media player, QuickTime Player, etc.....is that program set up to run minimised to tray ?

For whatever program you have set up to open mp4 files:

  • Right-click on program's shortcut on your desktop or in File Explorer.
  • Click on Properties. The Properties windows should open, and you should be working in the Shortcut tab.
  • What is selected for the 'Run:' field?
  • You need 'Normal Window', but is 'Minimised' selected ?
  • Select 'Normal Window' and click OK.

I am using Windows Movies and TV. I have been to all the settings there and even uninstalled and reinstalled. There is no way I see to get to "Properties". It opens mp4 files that I have on my computer just fine. I have tried different default media players with the same result. Also .jpg files open minimized if they are an attachment. Is Thunderbird tied to Firefox in some way that there could be something in Firefox?

'Properties' for any app on computer is located by right clicking on the shortcut icon for the app to see drop down options.

I do not think this is a problem created by Thunderbird. It sounds more like something set up within computer for downloaded apps.

I've also discovered you can't create shortcuts for Windows Store apps and I'm presuming you are using Windows Store apps. If it 's listed in the Start Menu. Yes that is a Windows Store App and I find no way to get to "Properties" that I find. Also it does the same if I use VC player or another program that I can get to "Properties" and there is nothing there to set. I guess I'll live with it.
