After seeing dozens of Firefox processes idle but taking up memory, I reinstalled the browser. I found the issue was still unresolved so I looked into it more carefully. When I startup and shutdown Firefox, there are 6 processes, which I read was normal. However, it adds 5 more processes each time I startup and shutdown the browser. I do not want to leave the browser up all day and I let my computer sleep rather than shutdown each night. I reboot after updates etc. The processes disappear on restart/reboot. WIN 11 Pro 64 bit.

The processes should not accumulate across browser restarts. Scan for malware with something like Malwarebytes to ensure your system is clean.

Terry, This happens if I reopen on the same site. Zero, I run bitdefender and run emsisoft scans regularly. No malware.

Thanks for the ideas.

Can you attach a screenshot of the Windows Task Manager showing all the Firefox processes after restarting it several times in a row?

Does it still happen in a new profile? An easy way to test a new profile is to install Developer Edition and see if it happens there or refresh your existing profile.
