I just lost several hundred tabs on Firefox mobile right after it updated itself. The most recent tabs show only ten of those tabs, which were all opened and closed today and aren't part of what I need to restore.

How do I get my tabs back? I've seen no 'restore previous session' option. My laptop only shows the few I have open now. What do I do to restore them?

Hello. Is anyone available to help?

Hi

You mention a mobile version of Firefox, but also this is on a laptop.

It would be handy to understand what version of Firefox you are using and on what device.

Sorry yes. It is the Firefox mobile android version 125.3.0 (Build #2016017559), 9f29904153+ GV: 125.0.3-20240425211020 AS: 125.0.1 On a samsung galaxy note 20 ultra 5g.

Hi

Thank you for that information.

Was the update from a much older version of Firefox for Android? Does the app look very different now?

more options

It was up to date at that point, not counting the newest one that caused the problem.

Am I going to be able to get any help with this?

more options

I am sorry, but I do not think it will be possible to recover those bookmarks. I have had many updates myself without a problem (as have many other users) and outside of updating from the Firefox for Android 68, I am not aware of any reason that would cause tabs to disappear like that.

Ok. Is there no stored backup sessions saved anywhere? Or does Firefox mobile android even have a session restore? How does it keep track of the current opened tabs, and reopen those when Firefox mobile android is closed and opened (and sorry I just have Firefox mobile android copied to paste) And where would that save be? I'm hoping to find anything. Any hint of recovering my tabs. And having already been 2 day short of 20 days, I know my chances are slim. But I have kept Firefox open, and the phone powered on this entire time hoping for any sliver of a chance of recovering those tabs

Do you see those tabs in the History option from the Firefox for Android menu?

more options

Nope. And before this though. I generally open and close between 50 and 200 tabs a day. So that was always changing. And the most I have ever seen there were 10 tabs

I am sorry, but it is not going to be possible to recover those tabs.

Is there no session restore for the mobile version? How does it keep track of current sessions, and where are those files located at?

more options

Those files may be located in your Firefox profile, which is inaccessible unless you root the device, which is very likely to lead to the loss of those files and damage to your device.

more options

Alright. Would they be the the android/data or Android/obb folder? Are they in a subfolder or org.mozilla.firefox? What file types and names should I be looking for?

more options

Your profile can be found (on a device that was already rooted) at /data/user/0/org.mozilla.firefox/files/mozilla/

The profile folder itself will have name of [random characters]. default. I have not tried doing this myself, but assuming the structure is similar to the desktop copy of Firefox, you will need to look for a file sessionstore.jsonlz4.

If you device is not already rooted, rooting it is likely to lead to the loss of the data that you are trying to restore.
