When I open Firefox I get a constant noise like a police or ambulance siren. This has only started since I logged on about 1 hour ago (about 7.45 p.m 21st May 2010). Any idea what this is, and how it can be stopped/fixed, please?

something to do with CoolPreview. Try to disable it!

You can update Cool Previews to the latest version. See https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/2207/

I'm not sure if I should ask here or start a new topic? I recently updated to Firefox 4.0, and I just today noticed a very quiet, high-pitched sound that I thought was my hard drive. Until I remembered I have a SSD. When I closed FF, it immediately went away. I opened IE, no sound. FF--sound. It's just loud enough to be REALLY annoying. I looked at my add-ons and extensions, most of which are disabled due to incompatibility with FF 4. I don't have that Cool Preview or coliris mentioned here. I didn't click anything--it just showed up when I opened up the browser (homepage is yahoo). It might have been there before, and I didn't notice it w/TV on in background b/c it's pretty quiet, but now I'm trying to study , and it's driving me nuts-o. Any help is appreciated.

I wouldn't describe it as a siren, exactly (it's not loud, it doesn't sound like an ACTUAL siren one would hear). It's more just a mechanical, high-pitched kind of buzz that stops as soon as I close FF and starts as soon as I open it. I'm running W7 Pro.

Thanks!!!!! W

Forgot to say my speakers are muted!!! I keep them muted all the time. Turning on and off does nothing.
