My mother who lives in Florida says she uses Firefox to access the internet, but I can't find a hot spot. I do have Mozilla/firefox on my laptop and would love to use it, if there are hot spots in my area. If there are could you tell me how to access them.

As far as I know, Mozilla doesn't operate any wi-fi hotspots. To find hotspots in an area, you could check out any number of online directories, such as: JiWire Global Wi-Fi Finder.
