I have mozilla firefox, can I unistall my McAfee protection now?
I am a senior, and don't know a lot about the computer. My grandson put mozilla firefox on my desk top. I want to unistall my McAfee protection, but don't know if I should.

You can get free antiviruses, if that is the McAfee software you mean. I was using Antivir from Avira. It is advisable to use some kind of antivirus. It is also advisable to use a firewall.
Yes I know I need a virus protection. So by your answer, Mozilla Firefox, is not any protection. So can I go to Avira, before I unistall McAfee? Or unistall McAfee first? My computer is eight years old, and filled with ten grandchildrens pictures. I don't want them lost. Thanks
You should back up the data on your computer anyway. You never know when your hard drive might fail, for instance. You can put data on DVDs or Flash sticks. Firefox is not an antivirus. I would get the installer for Antivir, then uninstall McAfee and install Antivir. If you do not have a firewall, you should install one, unless you have a router between the modem and the computer. I have heard favourable things about the Comodo firewall.
Hello shamrockjo
McAfee and Norton are not so easy to remove from your computer even if you use their uninstall or Delete/Remove via control panel. Whichever method you use, after rebooting you would also need to put a search for McAfee and remove all McAfee stuff. That is not all. You would also need a registry checker and cleaner to remove whatever is left behind by McAfee.
You could use AVG PC Tuneup 2011 at http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Sy.../AVG-PC-Tuneup.shtml once as free trial though the trial period is 24 hours if you install AVG Free 2012 Antivirus.
