Periodically I get a notification that there's an upgrade for Firefox, and when I click on the download button a status bar appears, but my computer can't connect to the server.

Try going to http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

  1. Download the full installer to your desktop.
  2. Close Firefox. Be sure that it isn't still running in the background.
  3. Run the installer and re-open Firefox.
