FF upgraded to 9.0.1 Now second tab opens at startup "Hooray..." I know how to set my home page in Options, General Tab - 'Restore to Default' does not reset, it does nothing ! What to do?
Firefox just upgraded itself to FF 9.0.1 Now, when starting FF, it opens my homepage ... and a second tab: "Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date." OK, once or twice is enough but now that I know, how do I stop the new tab from opening at startup. I know how to set my home page in Options, General Tab, but 'Restore to Default' does not reset, it does nothing ! What to do?

Does that only happen if you start Firefox?
Which page(s) open if you click the Home button?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Hi again, I solved the problem! :)
I deleted 2 files
user.js
prefs.js
and bingo, all is well.

Thank you so much, it worked great. It also stopped it from checking the addon thing.
Thank You,
Hi all again, FF just upgraded to 13.0.1 and ..... you guessed it ...... the same thing happened as before .... that annoying tab opens "Hooray! Your Firefox is up to date." and it won't go away.
Fortunately, the same cure is available, simply delete the 2 files
user.js .......and ..........prefs.js
by clicking on 'Firefox' top left corner then point at 'Help' click on 'Troubleshooting Information' under 'Application Basics' you will find 'Profile Folder' click on 'Show Folder' locate the 2 files and delete them.
