when I click on a file while browsing, Firefox automatically saves the file. I think I clicked that option once but I want to change it back to being able to view the file I click rather than automatically download it. where is the setting?

You can try to change the file type Action in Tools (Alt + T) > Options > Applications. Options > Applications
