I have had to go back to using Explorer on my HP Windows 7 as Mozilla will go to a black screen when I am on that platform forcing me to shut down and losing current searchs. Any one have an explanation or a fix for this?

You can be in the mozilla program and after 15 to 30 minutes the screens go black. Have to close entire computer if unable to blindly find way to close firefox tab as can't see anything. Using Mozilla version 10.0.2

Have HP Pavillion DV7 and Windows 7 Premium

Now open both firefox and windows explorer as can't trust the reliability of firefox as I did in the past on earlier version of 3.6.16. Version 4 was horrible so found way to go back to 3.6.16. Do I need to return back to earlier version of 3.6.16 again?

When the screen goes black, can you try hitting CTRL+Q to quit the program? Let us know if that quits the program and restores the screen back to normal.

Here's how to start Firefox in safe mode and reset all your prefs to see if that fixes the problem: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Resetting%20preferences?s=safe+mode&r=2&e=es&as=s

I have included a word doc showing the current screen prints and have to close down firefox and reopen before I can try the safemode fix as per my snapshots the help screen is also black thus I can't use the fixes as is.

Very frustrating as been on the computer for an hour when this black screen appeared. Arrrggghhh !!

Here is the word doc with the screen shots. Even the help section is black.
