AVG and latest Firefox
I have been getting window strongly recommending to update to latest Firefox, but when I go to do so I get a warining that AVG will be disabled. Because AVG is my only security installed, I do not update. I am concerned in case the latest Firefox has security fixes and by not updating I am leaving myself vulnerable. But if AVG is not compatible, I will lose it if I update (?) Furthermore, I am I am not technically savvy, so can I just get another antivirus program or would I need then to uninstall the nonworking AVG? Also, can you tell me if I really need the latest Firefox, does it have security fixes so that my computer would be safer? Many thanks

That message is not about the AVG program, but is about extension and toolbars (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that AVG add to Firefox.
We've already seen a lot of issues over the years caused by AVG Safe Search and other AVG extensions like the AVG Security toolbar.
AVG will still be working scanning files on the computer just like it used to do, only not within Firefox if the extensions are disabled.

As cor-el said, this will only disable the AVG Toolbar (which is almost useless anyway) not AVG. I'd personally recommend uninstalling AVG, and using another anti-virus such as Microsoft Security Essentials (usually ends up be better than AVG). Download and Install Microsoft Security Essentials from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials.
