Do you have multiple copies of History, Downloads, and Tags, too?
(Above the All Bookmarks folder.)

Are you using Firefox Sync to synchronize your bookmarks across multiple devices?

Any chance you have imported bookmarks from another version of Firefox multiple times?

No I don't have copies in history, downloads and tags and yes I have imported my bookmarks at least a couple of times but not much more than that. Is there a way fix this I was told there's an extension that automatically removes/merges duplicate folders and bookmarks by the way is there any harm in having duplicates?

When you import a bookmarks.html file it appends existing bookmarks. When you restore a bookmarks JSON backup it replaces existing bookmarks with the backup file.

There is a new version of the Bookmark Duplicate Detector extension - BookmarkDD v 1.1.1 for Firefox 12+ versions available here: http://bookmarkdd.mozdev.org/installation.html

AMO homepage is here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-detector/?src=ss

There's no harm in having duplicate bookmarks, beyond the file size being so large with all the duplicates.

Looking at your many other posts you seem to have a rather unusual set-tup. I was also under the impression it is almost unuseable.

  • Firefox is lagging and freezing updating plugins helped a little. /questions/931482

Maybe you should first of all try some of the basic troubleshooting.
