After 14.0.1 update, when I right-click and click Save Image As, Firefox re-downloads the image instead of saving it from the page cache like it always did before the update. This is difficult to realize with small images, but with large images like >1MB the opening of the downloads window and progress can easily be seen.

Are all caches enabled and working (being used)?

You can check the on the about:cache, via the location bar.
You can also check the values of the browser.cache and image.cache prefs on the about:config page to make sure that they have the default values.

Also make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the browsing cache when you close Firefox.
