I saw a video online showing this cool Aurora browser with a futuristic 3D environment so I downloaded Aurora and was greatly disappointed that it looks 0% like what was in that video. Was that just a joke?

That Aurora and the Aurora you're using now aren't at all related. The one in the video was a concept, from 4 years ago. The current Aurora didn't come about until March of 2011, when Firefox 4, and the rapid-release cycle were launched. For some reason, Aurora is a very popular name for software, sorry about the confusion.

No. I don't recall where I saw the video originally, but there was no information (comments/description/etc.) where I first saw it. But this is the video: http://vimeo.com/1450211

Aurora is the name of one of the development channels of Firefox as the channels started as of Firefox 5.0.

When Firefox 4.0 was released the Beta channel had Firefox 5.0, Aurora had 6.0a2 and Nightly had 7.0a1. Currently it is 14.0.1 on Release, 15.0 on Beta, 16.0a2 on Aurora and 17.0a1 on Nightly.
