Hi, I have never been able to locate the toolbar normally below the Subject Line when typing an email.. This is the bar with the font size, colour etc. Has all the extras for letter writing, bold, underline, italic etc.. Have always had it with prior systems but never with Thunderbird.....Sherlock

Chosen solution

You are likely composing in plain text

Write>options>delivery format>rich text (HTML) only

Also: Tools>options>composition

That would be the Formatting Bar. Open a Write Window. From the Menu Bar select View-Toolbars and turn it on. No menu bar? Press the alt key.

It only displays when composing an email in HTML format. If writing in plain text there is no formatting bar since you cannot format plain text. That is what makes it plain.
