When will calendar support be native in TB?

More of a roadmap question (I have been using Lightning for years).

So calendar support for a widgit like TB should be an out-of-the-box solution, I think. Why do we still have the old add-on model? Not that Lightning is terrible: it's pretty good. But the upgrade cycle is less than perfect and it seems like it should be part of TB.
