Unattended recording of streaming video is destroyed by your incredibly annoying pop-ups for Firefox updates, etc. How do we stop these ?

The opening sentences say it all. Its infuriating to go away while I record streaming video, and return in an hour or so to find just about the entire recording covdered by the idiotic Fire Fox popup for updating. I have the option marked to allow NO popups. This does not apply to Firefox??
