Ubuntu: 14.04 Firefox: 35.0.1

Main Menu: Files, Edit, View, History...

Problem: the folders in the main menu e.g. under bookmarks menu pop up are not clearly visible. I would like to change the background colors or show the folders but I could not find a way to do this.

Tried so for: using themes, stylish add on, userChrome.css in the profile. All these options change e.g. the tab color or the in page menu. However, none of them I have been able to use to change the main menu.

Tried to attach an image but it does not upload.

If you have the menu bar that is provided by your Ubuntu OS as part of Unity then it may not be possible to do this unless you would disable that integration and restore Firefox's own menu bar.
