Until a few days ago, possibly up until a Windows 8 update, I could always just right click on files attached to emails and they would open in an appropriate program. For pdf files Foxit Reader was my default but now all I get is a quick pop-up window opening and then closing again before I can read anything in it, and no file opened. I can take the long option, either Detach or Save the file, then open Foxit and then open the file. Tedious! I've reset Foxit as the default program for pdf files in Control Panel. I've reloaded Foxit. No change. Got any clues?

'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Attachments' > 'Incoming' tab or 'Menu icon' > 'Options' > 'Options' > 'Attachments' > 'Incoming' tab

under Content Type look for eg: Adobe Acrobat Document pdf It will have an action. If it does not have the correct action = 'Foxit Reader', select it from the drop down options or click on 'Use Other' to open a small window with further options. If it is still not in list, click on 'browse' and locate the foxit reader .exe file. click on all the 'OK's.

Retest opening of pdf attachment.

If this does not work, go back into Options > Attachments and click on the Action and select : Delete Action. If you delete the Action, you will need to reset it. Select email with pdf attachment click on Open Select to Open with and choose 'foxit Reader' from options. If option is not available click on 'Use Other' to open a small window with further options. If it is still not in list, click on 'browse' and locate the foxit reader .exe file.
