Why does firefox browser shut down when I close the only open window? Used to be able to return to your homepage by closing a window.

I just installed windows 8.1 and am having trouble with the Firefox browser. I am using version 38.0.1. When I open a new window or tab, my homepage does not come up, but new browser window and the search window defaults to Yahoo search. Also when i have multiple tabs open and close the last open tab, it closes the browser. Used to be the best way to return to your homepage,.

A newly opened window opens with the home page(s).

You may have had an extension that opens the home page in case you close the last open tab.

You can set browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false on the about:config page to prevent closing the last tab from closing that window and make a close button appear if only one tab is open.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
