Using global Inbox Option in Thunderbird 38.1.0

I currently have two Inboxes - one under my email account, and the other under Local. I want to just have one i.e. Local. I have the same sub-folders in both Inboxes. I have transferred all my saved messages into the sub-folders under Local. But in 38.1.0 I can't find how to direct my incoming mail using the Global Inbox option i.e. into the Local folder.

Also since using 38.1.0, Thunderbird seems to freeze for some time when asked to "Get Messages". I have an IMAP account. I am using Windows 7.1 (62 bit).

IMAP can't use the Global Inbox directly. You should perhaps create a Message Filter on the account inbox to simply move all incoming email to the Local Folders inbox. Other approaches are to use Unified Folders, or a Saved Search folder.

For the hesitations, try Tools/Options/Advanced/General and disable hardware acceleration. Also, are you using any email scanning security software?

Hi Zenos The main thing I'm trying to achieve is to simplify my Inbox with just one Inbox folder (with lots of sub-folders). Would directing everything to the Local Inbox using the filters, achieve that?

I was hoping that by using the Local Inbox, my other Inbox would disappear. I used to use POP which made things simple, but after being advised to change to IMAP, I'm beginning to wonder whether I made a mistake.

I'll try disabling "hardware acceleration". I am currently using Avira set on "Enable Real Time Protection".
