How can I get Firefox v43 to open new tabs in my default Google search page instead of 'New Tab Tools'?

The new version v43 of Firefox continues Mozilla's efforts to disable my preference of having new tabs open in the Google search page. In v42, Mozilla completely disabled browser.newtab.url forcing me to install the New Tab Override addon in order to get my beloved NewTabUrl addon working again. But now with New Tabs Tools having been integrated into v43, NewTabUrl no longer functions and I'm again presented with the task of searching the web for a way to fix things.

If I search from within New Tab Tool, the search is done on Wikipedia, which I have set as my default search engine. With NewTabUrl set to open new tabs to www.google.com, I've always been able to quickly do Google searches, and have the choice to search Wikipedia from either FF's mini search box or the URL address bar.

Is anyone aware of any tweaks to get around this FF 43 inconvenience, and re-enable the NewTabUrl addon?

Incredibly irritating. Waiting for New Tab Override add-on to be updated. Nothing like having to install extensions and add-ons to select your personal default new tab page, eh?

Downloaded and installed v42 over v43 and will wait for input here, and do web searches for solutions in my own good time.

Hi, can't be certain if it works in v43, but if you only want the New Tab to be the same as your home page, you can try the add-on New Tab Homepage.

You may then need to restart Firefox for any changes to take effect.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

I've tested New Tab Homepage and found it doesn't support one function I frequently use in NewTabUrl... the ability to open a new tab in the URL that's just been copied to Window's clipboard.

It can also be set to disable the placement the of the cursor in the URL location bar when the new tab opens. That conveniently places the cursor in Google's search box.

Yesterday (12/18/15) three people wrote feedback on the New Tab Override addon page noting that it no longer works in Firefox v43. Hopefully its author will offer an update soon.
