Firefox says I'm using an old version (42.0), but when I download the most recent version I get a message that say I'm about to replace a newer version.

Firefox no longer updates my version automatically (it used to!). Now I get a message that says I don't have the system permission required to install it (what??) and when I try to do it manually, I get a message that I am about to replace a newer version of Firefox and do I want to continue. About Firefox says I'm on 42.0, but I believe that 43.0 is available. I tried to upload a screenshot of the full message, but it was taking forever (I waited 10 minutes) so I posted this before it finished).

Hello JaneOP, try the next please, download and install firefox from the next official site, do the next steps:

1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html (full dmg package)

2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
