Certain sites (usually .asp) won't open in my Firefox browser. For example, here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/index.asp The header says "index.asp (GIF image, 1 x 1, pixels)"

If you use extensions (3-bar button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can interfere with loading content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions do not interfere with loading content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

Some firewalls like Kaspersky can block content and send a 1x1 GIF image instead.

Kaspersky: Protection > Firewall > Filtration system: disable the "Banner Ad Blocker"

That worked!! Although it took me a bit to actually find it -- not under "Firewall > Filtration system" (doesn't exist) but under "Protection >Anti-banner." THANKS!!
