hi geraa48, users of trend micro security software have reported similar issues - there is a trend micro password manager that might be automatically installed as a separate application on your system which may be responsible for that behaviour. in case you have it present and aren't using it, please uninstall it through your system control panel.
thnx philipp, will check that out; will let you know :-)

No, nothing like that; had ADW Cleaner/Bleeping Computer downloaded and removed that so maybe that wil do the trick; I have even disabled Windows DEFENDER, permanently (it slows things down too much), thru the regedit thing; have no other antivirus/malware installed, lost my tiny blue anti-everything-program when I reinstalled a few days ago, so I'm clean.
Just created YET ANOTHER PASSWORD, let's see what happens.
thnx again :-)
This "owner" has another thread over here about an add-on issue, possibly related to "anti-virus". https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1123885
Mentioned in the above posting. Not sure if that might be related to this support issue.
Is this the password for the Sync account?
Firefox would normally store the password for the Sync account in the Password Manager.
You can try these:
Disconnect from Sync and Reconnect to Sync again. You can disconnect from Sync by clicking the e-mail address in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list or go to "Options/Preferences > Sync".
Delete the signedInUser.json file in the Firefox profile folder and delete the Weave folder (Sync was formerly named Weave).
Remove an existing chrome://FirefoxAccounts entry in the Firefox Password Manager. If that isn't enough then delete the prefs.js files to reset all prefs and maybe also delete the compatibility.ini file to reinitialize the profile.
You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory:
Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
