All my emails from last year, and some from the year before, have disappeared from my Inbox. I can still see them in search results, but they don't show in any folder, so I can't actually open them or use them. I'm still receiving new emails. Is there a way to retrieve the emails?

On the toolbar > Help > Troubleshooting Information

Click the show profile button in Troubleshooting Information Close Thunderbird In the file window that opened, delete the file global- messages-db.sqlite Restart Thunderbird.

The search will be rubbish until the file fully regenerates, which could take a whole day if you have 10 or 20Gb of mail. You can monitor the status of that using the Activity Manager.

Thanks for your response. That's refreshed my search, but it hasn't affected my Inbox. So my messages from last year are still not showing there. And now I can't see them in search results either! So I'm worried they have disappeared entirely. I don't understand how all emails from mid-2015 onwards until up to a few days ago can have disappeared.

My guess is your anti virus notified you it found a virus or malware and it deleted all your mail in a ham fisted attempt to remove it.
