Uploading Browse feature doesn't display files in folder?

more options

Am on a website, iPage, and want to upload a file to their FileManager. I use their Browse function to find and select the file to be uploaded. However when displaying the folder in which the file resides, none of the files are being displayed. Thought it might be a files permission issue so changed to include "Everyone" and it still did not work. Out of frustration I used Internet Explorer and all files in the folder were being displayed, so I could select and upload the designated file. I'm assuming this is a Firefox issue and would prefer to use it instead of switching browsers back and forth. Any thoughts on resolving this? Thanks.

I don't use iPage, so I need you to be my eyes and hands in exploring this. (Or maybe iPage has a forum where they talk about Firefox issues?)

If you compare iPage's file browser dialog with the dialog generated by the Browse button on this site, does it look like basically the same dialog or something customized?

If you hack the filter in the iPage dialog by typing *.* in the filename area and pressing Enter, does that display anything additional?

If you use the iPage dialog to look in other locations on disk, is everything always blank?

When the "browse" box opens, is there a filter set? Usually the filter appears to the right of the file name blank at the bottom. (As an example, try the Browse button below the reply box on this site. It filters to a variety of image file extensions.) If iPage has a filter set, try changing it to "All Files" to see whether that makes any difference.

If the iPage upload dialog looks different from the one on this site even when you're viewing the same folder, maybe it's something custom. Could you post a screenshot of it? This article has tips on that: How do I create a screenshot of my problem? Please cut out or blur any sensitive information in the image before attaching it to your reply.

In another thread a while back, there was a problem with a dialog that had a horizontal divider that could be moved up and down. I don't know how to find that thread, but if there are any dividers in the dialog that you can move, try moving them around to see whether that unhides anything. I suppose IE might be a useful point of comparison.

iPage "Browse" has a filter with one setting, "All Supported Types" - the document is a PDF and that is a supported type as there are PDF files in their FileManager folders for the website being managed to use. As previously noted, whatever is on iPage is working fine for Internet Explorer, thus my assumption is the problem is related to Firefox. I am a new web-administrator for the website and the prior administrator told me he uses Internet Explorer, Windows 10, and never had a problem. I'm trying to execute the same process using Firefox 50.1.0 on Windows 7.

More than happy to be your eyes and hands. The Browse feature is similar to most I've seen - I use Dropbox a lot and it is similar. I had placed copies of the file in other Folders and had the same result. However you do have the WINNING FORMULA - after entering *.* in the filename area and pressing enter, ALL the files in the folder were displayed. I did have one to upload, selected it, and it appeared in the "upload" list - I then uploaded it and verified it was there! Happiness is.... a successful upload. Thanks for providing a successful workaround for this situation.

That's good to hear. And the same trick works in numerous Windows programs with a narrow view of what files you should be feeding them.

Maybe the way iPage specifies the file filter is not fully Firefox compatible. Next time you use the button, do you notice *.pdf listed in parentheses after All Supported Types? If it's missing, there may be a glitch in that aspect of their HTML.

I did not notice anything listed with the Browse button, however when in FileManager there is an option to select only the file types desired to be displayed, and that list contains PDF and many other file types. I am now using a Dell laptop, with Windows 7 and Firefox 50.1.0 and trying the same upload process. Now the idiosyncrasy on this computer is nothing happens when the "Browse" button is selected, except seeing a revolving circle - suppose I'll have to live with that problem and do my uploading when on the desktop (which is shared with my wife!). Thanks again.
