Thunderbird won't open. When I try repairing or redownloading, it says must close before continuing.

Yeap, you are right, but what you don't know if that it might be open in Background and you can't see the process

Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to the Process tab and find ""thunderbird.exe"", select it and hit ""End Task"" or just reboot your computer.

Try again, see what happens.
