I have been attempting to move profiles for Firefox and Thunderbird from one laptop with Win10 Home to a new laptop with Win10 Home. Without either program running, I first changed the xxxxxxxx.default to xxxxxxxx.old and them copied the xxxxxxxx.default from the old computer to the new computer. An error message came up “Unexpected error” and “Error 0x80004005”. The choices were “accept, skip and cancel”. I chose to cancel. My second attempt was to open the old computer’s xxxxxxxx.default and copy all of the files and then paste them in the new computer’s xxxxxxxx.default folder. The same error message appeared. What does this message mean and is okay to skip it? Please help.

Hi

Do you have Firefox and/or Thunderbird open when you are doing this?

I strongly recommend that you make sure that the application in question is closed before attempting to move or copy its profile folder.

No, both programs are closed in each case.

Have you tried to zip or rar the file before copy/paste/move.

Just because a program is closed does not mean it is not running.

You might try doing your copy/paste/move in safe mode without network support.

If the file remains locked you can try this : https://www.malwarebytes.com/fileassassin/

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
