I I have 2 Thunderbird screens overlaid and cannot close either one

First, when I click the Thunderbird icon to open the site, the Thunderbird cover comes up with "wait, processing" but never changes. When I click "okay" the e-mail page comes up but there are two (2) overlaid and I cannot eliminate either one - ie cannot close the site; the close " X" just turns red . If I click on the underlaid page, they just switch places. The e-mails seem to be coming thru okay but I cannot close the site!

Chosen solution

Try using alt+F4 to close one of them.
