I see several people have the same problem with verizon AOL SMTP server (smtp.verizon.net). No problem receiving POP mail (pop.aol.com), but unable to send using SMTP. I can send mail using the AOL online app, the windows 10 mail app, and BlueMail app on my android phone.

One of the other people with this problem mentioned that he had a different reply-to address and that removing this enabled outgoing mail to work. I also had a reply-to address and voila removing this did in fact re-enable outgoing mail. Why this should have become a problem is a good question.
