I can't drag, drop and move around folders on the bookmarks toolbar, but everything else seems to be working fine.

This broke after I installed the beta version of firefox 69. I tried deleting firefox and reinstalling (with the stable 69 version that was just released) but I still can't pick up the bookmark folders. Moving and selecting things within the folders is working, I just can't grab them off the toolbar and can only click to open them.

I have another laptop running exactly the same configuration of themes and addons that I didn't try the beta on, and that's updated to 69 and is working just fine.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.

  • use "Verify Integrity" button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page

In case errors are reported with "Verify Integrity" close and restart Firefox and retry.

If "Verify Integrity" cannot repair places.sqlite, rename/remove all places.sqlite and favicons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

If the things that cor-el has mentioned above don't help, try the steps found on the Drag and Drop errors with Firefox Launcher Process enabled and Windows UAC disabled - How to Fix page.

I'm not sure if it's the cause of the problem in this particular case, but it's worth a try I suppose.

Hope this helps.

No luck with these solutions. I also found out I can move around individual bookmarks on the toolbar ok, it's just folders causing a problem.

Hi penguincircus-1, I realize it's not a substitute but are you able to rearrange the folders in the Library window? You can launch that using

Command+Shift+b

By default, the Other Bookmarks list will come up. In the left column, click Bookmarks Toolbar.

Then, on the right side, will Firefox let you drag folders up and down? Are there any unexpected separators?

Yes I can move around folders within the library window. Not seeing anything unusual there.

I can move around folders within my main header folders on the bookmarks toolbar as well, just not the ones on the actual toolbar.
