Firefox logo If I type 'foo' into the history search from ctrl+h, i get more results than if i type 'foo' into the address bar. How can I get history results in address bar? 2 replies 1 has this problem 16 views Last reply by dmdklb 2 years ago
dmdklb dmdklb 07:32, 23/10/17 more options I want the address bar to match on url and title, if i go to http://foo.com/foobarbaz then i want to type 'bar' into the address bar and have http://foo.com/foobarbaz come up as one of the options, every single time, no matter how many times i visit other websites that use the word 'bar' in their title or url
in short, i want comprehensive search of all visited pages when i type into the address bar
is this possible?

Chosen solution Couldn't figure out custom style rules, i ended up installing custom theme restorer addon and moving to an unofficial firefox branch to make this work, seems firefox will be disabling this functionality in the main branch
such a shame that firefox is doing so much to force people to browse a certain way and dropping support for established ways of doing things
thanks for pointing me in the right direction jscher2000

If I want to search something which includes dot(.), firefox immediately recognize as url so i always failure to search it.
so dency01 you should try this one
You can put the dot ( . ) between four apostrophes, like e.g.:
youtube.com

The initial view is the first 8 items from Top Sites on the new tab page. You may or may not have ever paid attention to those before.
The moment you start entering text, the bar should give you up to 10 suggestions just like before.
The developers are aware of this being a little confusing and are trying to figure out the best approach. They limited it to 8 in this design since people who don't increase the number of rows on their new tab page would not be able to modify the 9th and 10th items from Top Sites.
Now, about the list content...
The Top Sites list from the new tab page is slightly different than the old "frequently visited pages" list. To show that list, you can type a space in the address bar.
Is that closer to what you're looking for?

Nono, i missed 2 sites and i didn't know what happened, and just recognized the bar not showing 10 sites anymore. This is why i start this question.

Yes but it's very uncomfortable if every time i need to press space...
hello......
we are glad that i am solving your problem dency.
please follow the given instructions for resolve the problem:
Go to about:config and increase value of browser.urlbar.maxRichResults.
Hi! It didn't work. I doubled the value, and restarted Firefox and checked that the value is still as I set it (to 20), but there are still only 10 results showing.
Now I realize that the userChrome.css is not enough. I need the browser.urlbar.maxRichResults setting too.
i hope resolve the problem then please reply me back.
Thank you!

The Top Sites list -- from the new tab page -- and the frequent pages list are different. Maybe try:
Firefox 77:
if you double-click the
browser.urlbar.openViewOnFocus
preference in about:config to switch it to false, then you can show the history list using any of these methods:
Original List
- If the address bar is blank, press the spacebar key or press the down arrow key
- If the address bar shows the current page address, delete the address (tap Esc to restore the address when desired)
Similar List
- Type the ^ character in the address bar
Firefox 78-79:
If you double-click the
browser.urlbar.suggest.topsites
preference in about:config to switch it to false, then you can show the history list using any of these methods:
Original List
- If the address bar is blank, press the spacebar key
- If the address bar shows the current page address, press the spacebar key to replace it with a space (tap Esc to restore the address when desired)
Similar List
- Type the ^ character in the address bar
Hello dency01,
In firefox new URL bar, it limits its capacity to store 8 websites only, no matter 20 is written in browser.urlbar.maxRichResults. It will always show 8 top websites you visit most. However, when you will start typing in URL bar it will expand upto 10 results.
Hope it will clear all your confusions related to new URL bar. Thank You !!
Ye okay guys i understand.
