I recently updated the Android Firefox to the latest version. This had several unwanted effects:

1 The start screen did keep mentioning that I could use Collections. As I am totally uninterested in almost anything Firefox has added as features I wanted to get rid of this message. This seems to be impossible. I did find an older support issue that this could be done with about:config but this ends in Cannot Complete Request (with Try Again not doing anything new) 2 When entering a URL I see the Bing logo. I have not noticed that before, I either missed it or it's new, but bottom line is that I do not want a search engine to enter a URL. I want to enter a URL. Period. Also here About:config could help (keyword.enabled set to false) ...if it worked

I ended up de-installing Firefox completely and as I found a .apk file in my Download directory and I could install 68.1.1 of last year. This does not seem to use a search engine, about.config still works and it does show a clean display so I can just enter an URL, which is all I actually want to do with the browser. Only thing it doesn't do is get rid of earlier opened tabs (despite having checked all items in Settings/Privacy settings). Oh yeas, and it misses 1 year of security patches. But I rather miss these than Firefox "working" like the latest version does.

Or can/will this be solved?

Yes, almost all of this issues will be fixed this year. And if you want use the URL bar for URLs, just ignore the bing icon, you won't be sent to bing.

Perhaps you need the Nightly version, which contains about:config.
