crash on download AND on upload
Since somewhere last autumn, when I download any file from any website, the browser vanishes without any warning on the moment I navigate to the destination folder.
I maintain 2 websites (Joomla), and last week both required uploading a few files in Phoca Download to make them available to members. Now also on this upload the browser was completely gone when I navigated to the folder where I kept the fles.
I use Firefox since about 1995. I looked in about:Crash (first time ever), there were to reports, both unsubmitted: 69990c58-1a5c-40a3-9141-666607416103 6/22/2020, 1:23 AM e6f0688e-73e4-4c19-8e0a-01ec3c28e996 2/22/2019, 4:09 PM I have submitted them both now.

The latest report failed to be upkoaded...
And I forgot to mention, that I have aready uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled a fresh installer download (using Chrome!!!).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

About:Throttling
You're seeing this page because the crash report you selected was held back from submission. For statistical purposes, we don't need every crash report and sometimes we decline the submission of a crash report as a form of throttling. If you'd like to see your crash report, type about:crashes into your location bar and your report will be automatically submitted to our server where we'll give it priority processing.
Thank you for reporting your crashes.
Bug 1662317 About Throttling My Firefox crashed but did not submit the crash report.
I tried to manually send the report, and the system gave me the message: About Throttling
If Mozilla does not need the report, I, the user, still want to know what happened. How else can I fix or understand what went wrong?
Safe mode did not help. I did not mention that, but of course I had tried that earlier, it's the first thing to do when something goes wrong... I repeated it now: browser stil disappears silently after attempt to navigate to target folder for a download.
I tend to think that I should uninstall Firefox and clean the register from remnants of it before reinstalling. Would that be a logical step to perform?
(I will also try to find a Microsoft forum on details of File Explorer failing to do it's job under Firefox :-) )
Let’s do a full clean re-install;
Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers. They are;
Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.
If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles would not be affected.

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.
Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.
Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Note: Check Both Folders
Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac
Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux
If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.
Do Not remove any profile folders.
After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

Yesterday I did as instructed, and I could save a download in the desired folder again. But today , after shutdown and this morning a restart, situation is restored: I can't save a download. What on earth...
I called for more help.
Maybe call again? :-)

As a workaround, for downloads I now use a fixed folder, and move files from that folder to their destiny. But I now have to upload files very frequently, and there is no workaround for pointing to the file. Firefox is now unusable HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have you tried using upload/download managers?
No. Never had any need of a download manager. I never upload or download huge files. I would not even know how to install one.
Go to the Mozilla Add-ons Web Page {web Link} (There’s a lot of good stuff here) and search for what you want.
