I recently switched over to Thunderbird and all has been great with the exception of not being able to send email. This is the message I receive.

"An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: * OK [CAPABILITY IMAP4rev1 SASL-IR LOGIN-REFERRALS ID ENABLE IDLE NAMESPACE LITERAL+ AUTH=PLAIN AUTH=LOGIN] Dovecot ready.."

I contacted my hosting company and they said they can't support it because from all appearances their server is working just fine. I'm getting a bit frustrated as with the new install, I said goodbye to Microsoft forever by installing Ubuntu 20.04 as well. What a learning curve complete with challenges! Thanks.

looks to me like you have used the IMAP server to try and send mail... that will not work. So is this a commercial provider or a local thing with a shared incoming mail and outgoing mail server where the port numbers are used to differentiate on the protocol.

Actually, I spoke with my hosting company again, and we went through the settings and discovered that the out smtp was wrong. I would like to tell everyone if your hosting company is not helping you, just ask them to go through the settings with you. This could be an easy fix.

Thank you for responding to me. I appreciate it.
