Place replies in the folder of the message being replied to - is there an exception for messages replied to from inbox?
Hi,
I recently transferred from Outlook 2010 to Tunderbird. I like the TB Account Setting in Copies & Folder to automatically save replies in the same folder as the message being replied to, but not in the case where I am replying to a message in my Inbox, because this saves replies to my Inbox instead of my Sent folder. Outlook used to perform this only on messages replied to from subfolders, not Inbox. Any messages replied to from the Inbox were saved in the Sent folder. Is there any way to achieve this in TB? If there is no setting for this, would I be able to achieve it via some sort of user-designed rule? Many thanks in advance for any guidance you can give. Kind regards Nessa

I think this add-on would allow each sent message to be stored in any selected folder:

Or, you could maybe keep the current setting of storing all sent messages in the same folder as the message being replied to, but create a filter (Tools/Message Filters) that acts on the Inbox, After Sending, and moves replies to Sent, according to the rule To + isn't + <your email address>.

Dear sfhowes
Many thanks for your suggestions. The first works, as it allows me to select the sent folder to place the reply in or any other folder, but I liked the idea of the filter better because I would not have to make an additional selection when sending. However, I could not get the filter to work as you suggested. I left my folder settings to place a copy of the reply in the folder of the message being replied to, as you suggested, but the filter did not move those replies coming into the Inbox into the Sent Folder, so I used the filter instead on incoming mail to move anything received from my email address to the appropriate sent folder. It seems to work. Hope using the "is" function on the filter instead of the "isn't" wont cause any unforseen problems. Regs V
