Deleted emails being automatically deleted from trash folder after a few days

Deleted messages used to stay in my Deleted or Deleted Messages folders until I manually deleted them. (I kept them for several months in case of late disputes with correspondents). However, they are now vanishing after a few days. Retention policy on each is 'Use my AC settings' and 'don't delete messages.' Any advice please?

Chosen solution

It turns out that they (BT) have implemented a policy of automatic deletion after 30 days. Their suggestion was to delete messages to a folder other than 'Deleted'. I've set up an Archive folder and then set TBird server settings to move deleted messages to this Archive. Thank you for your help.

Are you accessing your e-provider with the web browser, or an e-mail browser like Thunderbird?

The cleaning out of the trash folder would be an issue with your e-provider. Contact their support.

Being old I don’t fully understand the question. Mail address is - - - @btinternet.com and I view my emails using Mail on iPhone and iPad (when deleted mails go to the Deleted Messages folder) or using Thunderbird on a pc (when deletions go to the Deleted folder).

You need to contact your e-provider support.
