hi, it has been 2 days since firefox starts to behave in an unusual way. when opening many tabs, and if i dont click on them (ie inactive) in 2-3 minutes, they go blank. when i click on an inactive tab, firefox quickly refreshes it and shows the page. example: let's say i have 3 open tabs: tab1, tab2, tab3. i am reading in tab3 for 15mins. in that period, i didnt click on tab2/1. if now i click on tab2, it is blank and no longer displays the content of the page it is supposed to show. then, firefox quickly refreshes the page and displays the true page.

not really sure why this is happening now. never happened before. it is a really annoying behavior as every tab had to be refreshed automatically if i dont click on it in very few minutes. firefox 96.0 ubuntu 18.04. thanks

p.s. follow up of the example: if i stay long time (2-3mins) on tab2, without clicking on tab3, and then click on tab3, it (tab3) is blank!!!!!!!!!! and firefox refreshes it automatically.

I didn't have these issue, but had problems with my distro version of Firefox. Which is why Nightly has been my daily driver for over the past year. I would suggest running multiple versions of Firefox and they can act as backup for your data.

Try downloading another copy of Firefox and run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

hi, thanks. i didnt try multiple versions of firefox. but what i did is: - clean home. only few gb left. now around 8gb. i thought firefox didnt find much space for tmp stuff, so it kills inactive tabs. - restart computer.

now, the issue seems to be gone. i'll report back if it returns. i already tried restarting the computer once, but it didnt work. it was until the second restart.

i remember that the issue started when i restarted the computer at some point. the next time i opened firefox, it asked to restore previous session!! meaning, that firefox closed last time with some issue. usually it does not ask to restore previous session. the tab issue started then.

i still dont know exactly what caused the issue, nor why it is gone now.

thanks

Just for kicks can you try a new theme? Are you using hardware acceleration? see screenshot

hi, - not sure what the theme has do with this. i may try troubleshoot mode. it deactivates some things such as themes, extensions, ... - hardware acc. is turned off long time ago.

thanks
